Introducing flashcards to help patients who have difficulty communicating verbally…

At EMED Group, we are constantly striving to improve patient care and safety. One of our latest initiatives is the rollout of a new tool designed to address a critical challenge in healthcare communication: how to effectively engage with patients who find it difficult to communicate verbally.

In a collaborative effort between our Governance, Quality and Compliance team and our Communications team, we have developed a set of flashcards that are now available across our fleet of ambulances. These flashcards use visual cues and straightforward language to empower patients to express their needs and concerns clearly and effectively.

The introduction of these flashcards represents a significant step forward in fostering understanding and trust between patients and healthcare providers during transport. By ensuring that ambulance crews can better understand and respond to each patient’s specific requirements, we are streamlining communication and enhancing the overall experience of care.

This initiative demonstrates EMED Group’s commitment to prioritising patient safety and empowering individuals to play an active role in their own care. The flashcards have been universally well-received by both patients and colleagues, highlighting their potential to make a meaningful difference in patient-provider interactions.

With a set of flashcards now available on every ambulance, we are proud to lead the way in developing practical, patient-centred solutions that make a real impact in healthcare.
