Our December Shining Stars have demonstrated outstanding commitment, from life-saving interventions to exceptional support in challenging situations. Here are their inspiring stories:
Rebecca Drury – Leeds Safe Care
Nominated by: Richard Stewart
Rebecca showed extraordinary bravery and care when she assisted emergency services at the scene of a serious road traffic collision. Climbing into the vehicle to stabilise a patient’s head and provide comfort while awaiting an ambulance, Rebecca remained on-site for over an hour, later coordinating recovery of personal belongings and notifying the patient’s next of kin. A true example of dedication in action.
Jenny Rae – Recruitment Team

Jenny played a crucial role in staffing for Sussex, successfully placing over 40 staff members in just three weeks. Her efficiency, positivity and commitment to delivering results have had a significant impact on the recruitment team and the wider organisation.
Simon Burrell – Campbell Rd, Stoke
Nominated by: Phillip Barratt
Simon brought festive cheer and community engagement to a local school visit, where he showcased EMED’s vital work. He confidently engaged with staff and children, gave ambulance tours and even donned an elf hat while handing out chocolates and Santa hats – making the experience memorable for all.
Paul Fanning – Shrewsbury Welsh Bridge

Paul was praised for his quick-thinking and professionalism during an emergency in Shrewsbury town centre. Responding to a CPR-in-progress call, he provided vital support to the patient and coordinated with emergency crews in a high-pressure environment.
Marc Coultas & Tracey Suffield – Leeds
Nominated by: Lewis McCrickard
While on a break, Marc and Tracey were flagged down to assist someone suffering a cardiac arrest. Using their training, they performed lifesaving CPR, worked with 999 services, and successfully helped the patient regain circulation. Their swift actions and courage saved a life that day.
Adam Johnson – Carlton Forest PC

When his crew mate experienced cardiac symptoms in the vehicle, Adam acted swiftly, providing first aid and contacting emergency services. His calm and professional response ensured his colleague received the urgent medical attention needed.
Paul Peacock – Durham
Nominated by: Alan Robinson
Even off-duty, Paul demonstrated his dedication to helping others. When he came across an overturned lorry, he climbed into the cab to assist the trapped driver, helping to release them safely.
Ben Walton & Ashleigh Farr – Thurmaston
Nominated by: Daljeet Singh
Ben and Ashleigh faced three intense and emotional emergency situations in just a couple of days, from performing CPR on a stroke victim at a crash scene to comforting an end-of-life patient’s family and providing emergency aid for a seizure patient. Their resilience and teamwork are truly commendable.
Bradley James – Worcester

Bradley’s immediate response to a patient suffering breathing difficulties helped save her life. His calm approach, swift coordination with 999 services, and compassionate support for the patient’s family were recognised even by attending paramedics.

On being recognised as Shining Stars, individuals receive a gift voucher and a Shining Star certificate to commemorate their outstanding achievements. Additionally, all award recipients will be invited to a special annual event dedicated to celebrating their successes.
